Ayesha Zafari
Salaam, my name is Ayesha Zafari, and I am a public health professional, community advocate, and nonprofit leader dedicated to serving refugee and immigrant communities in San Diego. Born in Afghanistan and raised in East County San Diego, I have spent the past several years working alongside families to improve access to health, housing, education, and social services. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Public Health from San Diego State University and currently serve as the Director of the Holistic Afghan Women Association (HAWA). Through my work, I strive to build stronger, healthier communities by empowering families with the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.
As someone deeply connected to my culture, I believe in the Afghan values of mehman-nawazi (hospitality), hamdeli (compassion), and khidmat (service to others). These values guide my work every day as I support newcomers, advocate for equity, and create spaces where community members feel welcomed, respected, and heard. My passion is helping individuals and families navigate challenges while preserving strength and resilience.
